In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to SONshine Ministries, a charity established by Dan and Pat with their friends, Keith and Linda Axvig in 2004 that works with Pastors in Mexico to provide medical care, food and household goods to families, especially single mothers, living in poverty.
Daniel was born December 1, 1938 in Chicago, IL, the son of Stanley and Lillian (Gorski) Schulist. In 1970, he met Patricia Berg in Minneapolis, MN. The couple married in 1972 and lived in Minneapolis and Andover, MN before moving to Nisswa in 1988. Together they founded Lakeland Mold located in the Brainerd Industrial Park. Working together was the best experience of their lives. In 1999, they retired but still retained ownership of the company. They began to winter in Scottdale, AZ where they enjoyed golfing. Daniels goal in life was to serve the Lord. He was a charter member of Timberwood Church. His family was always first to Daniel. He loved to fly and owning his own plane made it more accessible to visit his family around the country. He also liked boating and fishing.
Daniel will be greatly missed by his wife of 37 years, Pat; his daughters, Ruthanne Catherine (Larry) Freeman, of IN, Lisa Marie (Scot) Hill, of TX, and Sarah Frances (Herb) Morrison, of TX; his step-children, David Kjenstad, of Fargo, Todd Kjenstad, of Andover, and Lynette Lange, of AZ; his brother, Jerry Schulist, of TX; his sister, Joan Raispis, of AL; his grandchildren, Hannah, Gabriel, Madeline, Elizabeth, Rachel, Quarter, Grace, Lillian, Jesse, Garrett, Keegan, Nicholas, and Brendan; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and a ton of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Tom.
