Dale Andrew Rehnblom died at home Sunday, May 1, 2016 after a lengthy illness at 85 years, 5 months, and 29 days. He was born November 2, 1930 to Andrew and Ada (Johnson) Rehnblom in Oak Park, IL. He grew up in Lyons, IL and attended J. Sterling Morton High School. He was proud of his service in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Newport News (CA148) and with the Harbor Defense Unit in Delaware. He married Esther Gustafson in 1953 and together they raised three children. They moved to California in 1957 where Dale worked for Hughes Aircraft Company in Fullerton, CA and also Paris, France and London, England. He retired in 1985 to fulfill a lifelong dream of farming and raising sheep in Rushmore, MN. He eventually retired again to a lake property in Richman, MN and then to a vagabond life of motorhomes and trailers, spending his winters in Nevada, Arizona and Texas, and his summers on Leech Lake, before finally spending his remaining years in Baxter. Dale was a handyman and enjoyed gardening and fishing. He also was an avid reader.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Ada Rehnblom. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Esther, of Baxter, MN; children and their spouses, Douglas and Cheri (Light) Rehnblom, of Scottsdale, AZ, Nancy (Rehnblom) and Scot Silber, of Henderson, NV, and Steve and Lori (Harberts) Rehnblom, of Brainerd; seven grandchildren, Shannon (Silber) and Dillon Martin, of Henderson, NV, Shawn Silber, also of Henderson, NV, Ashley (Rehnblom) and Andy Morris, of Phoenix, AZ, Alicia (Rehnblom) and Mike Kelly, of Park Rapids, MN, Collin and Erin (Sullivan) Rehnblom, of St. Michael, MN, Kendra Rehnblom, of Brainerd, MN and Erica Rehnblom, also of Brainerd, MN; two great-grandchildren, Bayla Martin and Dahvi Martin, of Henderson, NV.
Services for Dale will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, May 6, 2016 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Baxter. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services and to stay for a reception to follow. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Noon on Friday at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
