Cyril Holmes

Cyril M. Holmes, 89, of Pine Center, MN died on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Veterans Health Care Systems in St. Cloud, MN. Services for Cyril will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:00AM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN with Celebrant Steve Suer officiating with visitation one hour prior to service .

Cyril was born on July 25, 1924 in Melrose, MN to Claude and Constance (Litchy) Holmes. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946. Cyril married Hazel Schmaltz. They were married for 64 years. He worked on the railroad for 30 years and lived in the Pine Center area most of his life. After Cyril retired he drove over the road truck. Cyril liked to do mechanical work, especially tinkering with cars. He also liked running his portable sawmill. Cyril enjoyed being entertained by his daughter's dog and shared his ice cream with her every night. He truly loved and enjoyed all of his family.

Cyril is survived by his children, Sharon (Vernon) Horst, Linda Brooks, Norman (Karla) Holmes, Donna Fitch, Gary (Cheryl) Holmes, and Bonita (Randy) Austin; sixteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; sisters, Julia Wellentin, and Caroline (William) Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Hazel; sons, Dale and Roy; and grandson, Roger; brother, Ray; and sister, Irene.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
