Curtis Kackman

Curtis Gary Kackman, 63, of Nisswa, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, MN. Services for Curtis will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, December 21, 2009, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa. Friends are welcome to gather Sunday, December 20, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter from 3-5 PM. Interment will take place at a later date at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. Curt was born January 16, 1946, in Lidgerwood, ND, the son of Wilbur and Elvira (Lentz) Kackman. After graduating high school and Wahpeton Junior College, Curt enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he served in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge, Curt settled in Chicago, IL. He was united in marriage to Betty Reed on August 16, 1969, in Roselle, IL. The couple moved to Los Angeles where Curt worked for Continental Airlines. In 1975, they moved to Nisswa. While in the Brainerd Lakes Area, Curt worked for Interlake Dairy, then Old Dutch Foods until his retirement in 2008. Curt was a long-time member of Lutheran Church of Cross. He was active in the church choir and was a member the American Legion in Nisswa, VFW in Jenkins, and was past president of the Nisswa Jaycees. Curt enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. Curt will be missed by his wife, Betty; his children, Kathi-Jo (Chris) Kackman  Carsrud, of Cold Spring, MN, John (Tara) Moriarty  Kackman, of Vail, CO, and Scott (fiancé, Sarah Lane) Kackman, of Nisswa; his mother, Elvira Walker, of Lidgerwood, ND; his grandchildren, Zoe Carsrud, Callum Carsrud, Caeden Kackman, and Caleigh Kackman; sisters, Valdean (Dennis) Lueck, of Nisswa and Julie (John) DeVries, of Underwood; and many nieces and nephews. Curt was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur; and nephew, Troy Lueck. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
