Curt Stillwell, 77, of Sylvan Township, passed away Friday (8/18/06) evening at the Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Services will be Monday 8/28/06 at 11 A.M. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter-Brainerd with Rev. Jim Almquist officiating, with a reception to follow at Brennys Reception Center. The relatives will receive friends one hour prior to services at the Brenny Funeral Chapel.
Curt was born 10/19/1928 in Jackson County, Minnesota, son of the late Tate and Martha (Kautz) Stillwell. He moved to Crosby with his parents and graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School and junior college. He entered the U.S. Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Following honorable discharge, he graduated from the University of Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Lois Borwege on 8/23/1958 at Wells, Mn.
Curt taught agriculture and served as FFA advisor in Alden, Lyle, and Howard Lake, where he also ran a dairy farm, then moved to Fergus Falls, where he taught until his retirement in 1985. He was honored as one of Minnesotas top ten teachers and recognized by the Future Farmers of America for his years of consecutive attendance at the organizations national convention in Kansas City.
Curt and Lois made their retirement home in Sylvan Township. Curt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and former member of the Elks, the Lions Club, the American Legion, and the Sylvan Township Board, which honored him with the Above and Beyond Award. He enjoyed music and played the organ. He loved his dogs Bonnie Jean and Mandy and was an avid gardener. For many years played Santa Claus in the communities where he lived. Curt collected Santas and brought joy and humor into the lives of many people.
Curt Stillwell is survived by his wife Lois, one sister, Harriet Lizut of Crosby, four brothers, Arnold Stillwell of Crosby, James (Phyllis) Stillwell of Bloomington, John Stillwell of St. Cloud, and Tate (Karen) Stillwell of New Ulm, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Ben.
