Clyde M. Gentry, 85, of Pine River, died on December 6, 2009 at the St. Cloud Veterans Hospital, St. Cloud, Minnesota. Services for Clyde will be held on Wednesday, December 9th, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes, MN. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. Interment will follow at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Pine River. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #613 of Pine River. Clyde was born on February 3, 1924 in South Gifford, MO to Pearl and Opal (Holcroft) Gentry. He graduated from high school in Greencastle, MO in 1942. Clyde served in the US Army, WWII in Europe in the Armored Infantry of the 10th Armored Division, General Patton Commanding, with three major campaigns as combat infantryman. He also served with the 3rd Infantry Division in Korea as a combat infantryman, as well as a combat medic. Medic service schooling qualified, and obtained the rank of SFC. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantrymans Badge 2nd award, the combat Medics Badge, plus routine awards. Documented and filed at Cass County Veterans Service Office, Walker, Minnesota. He also served three years with the 10th (MTN) Division in Europe during the Cold War. Clyde holds life membership in VFW post 3839 in Jenkins, MN, American Legion Post 613 in Pine River, MN, and Military Order of Purple Heart, Chapter 94 in Brainerd, MN. Clyde retired from United Defense (FMC Corp.) in Fridley, MN in 1989 where he worked with government naval contracts. His wife Jessica preceded him in death on December 29, 1994. Survivors are two sons, Carl Wayne Ross, Pequot Lakes, MN, and Charles L. Gentry, Pine River, MN; seven grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. He has lived in Minnesota since 1960.
