Clifford W. Leonard, age 84, died Friday, August 2, 2002 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Memorial services will be Monday, August 5, 11 AM, at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Reverend Linda Roal officiating. Private interment will be at a later date. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Clifford William Leonard was born July 18, 1917 in Brainerd, to Sidney and Ellen (Nordstrom) Leonard. He grew up and attended school in Brainerd. He served his country honorably in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He fought on the European Front and was awarded a Purple Heart in 1945. After the war he was married to Carol Nelson, his wife of more than 51 years, in Brainerd on January 12, 1946. Mrs. Leonard passed away in 1997. Cliff worked for the Northern Pacific Railway, and then as an engineer for ISD 181 until his retirement. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Brainerd, and belonged to the Brainerd VFW and the American Legion.
Clifford Leonard is survived by a daughter Marilyn (Ed) Knudtson of White Bear Lake; two sons Larry (Irene) Leonard of Brainerd, and John (Vickey) Leonard of Ideal Corners; three sisters Minnie Davis of Seattle, WA, Dorothy Lyons of Brainerd, and Olga Olson of Brainerd; and three grandchildren Lori, Brian, and Kari. His parents, his wife, and two brothers Stanley and Roy preceded Clifford in death.
