Clara Hunter

October 22, 1919 — May 25, 2008

Clara L. Hunter, age 88, of the Merrifield/Crosslake area passed away Sunday, May 25, 2008, at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Thursday, May 29 at the Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, MN. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake and also for one hour prior to services at the Church on Thursday.
Clara Lucille Hunter was born on October 22, 1919, in Sentinel Butte, North Dakota, the daughter of John and Cecilia (Ronellenfitsch) Kahl. She was the second oldest of nine children. She met Norman at the Marigold Ballroom in Minneapolis in 1941 where she was taking a beauty course. They were married on March 18, 1946, while he was on leave from the Navy submarine service. Clara and Norman were able to share over 62 years of marriage together. They were avid square-dancers in both Brainerd and in Texas where they wintered for about 15 years. Clara was a member of the Council of Catholic Women at Immaculate Heart in Crosslake. She also held offices with the U.S. Submarine Vets of WWII Auxiliary and the couple traveled to many conventions together. Clara will be sorrowfully missed by her many relatives and associates.

Clara is survived by her husband, Norman; children, Carol (Eugene) Lee, of Charlotte, NC, Janice Besche of Hendersonville, NC, Louise (Morse) Magnuson of Long Lake, MN, James (Teri) Hunter of Cottage Grove, MN, and Dean (Juli) Hunter of Minnetrista, MN; 21 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Bernice Kreitinger of Golva, ND, Robert Kahl of Chanhassen, MN, Elaine Begger of Wibaux, MT, Marcella Wiseman of Glendive, MT, Valerie Burnosky of Minong, WI, John Kahl of Glendive, MT and Charles Kahl of Wibaux, MT. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, John and Cecilia; step mother Mabel; and a brother, Erwin Kahl.

In lieu of flowers any donations should be made to the Alzheimers Research at Rochester, MN.
