Choko Engisch, 83, of Baxter, entered into eternally rest peacefully Monday, January 18, 2016 in Brainerd. Services for Choko will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services.
Choko was born February 23, 1932, in Osaka, Japan, the daughter of Yoshinosuke and Ai (Yagii) Omichi. After graduating from high school in Japan, Choko married Gene R. Engisch in 1955. The couple moved to Germany for a while, before making Brainerd their permanent home since 1962. Choko enjoyed working in the kitchen for the Brainerd School District. Her greatest joy was family, especially small children. She was an avid reader and also liked to garden and sew.
Choko will be missed by her daughter Millicent Engisch; son, Rudolph (Brenda); sister, Kaneko (Shigiyoshi) Uchiyama; six grandchildren, Rachel (James) Norwood, Acala (Joe) Harrison, Sarah Engisch, Gene (Marissa) Engisch, Dmitri (Ashley) Morris, and Kayla Engisch; ten great-grandchildren; and a niece and two nephews in Japan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Engisch; her parents; sister, Motoko Omichi; and brother, Ryo Omichi.
Choko and her family greatly appreciated the care and staff at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living where she made her home for a number of years.
