A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Staples. Friends may gather to support and comfort the family beginning at 10:00 AM Monday at the Church. Interment will be in Evergreen Hills Cemetery in the Spring. Charles John Vasecka was born on July 6, 1932, in Cass County, MN. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and in 1953 he entered the United States Army. Following his tour of duty he returned to the Staples area to farm. He loved farming and being in communion with nature. He was a genuine, honest man who instilled his devote Catholic faith in his whole family. He dearly loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He enjoyed writing letters, country music, and dancing. His entire life was spent within a few miles of where he was born. Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Albina Vasecka; 2 sons, Charles and William; and a daughter, Joan Saerger. He will be lovingly missed by his children, Sharon (Mark) Larson of Grey Eagle, MN, Connie (Randy) Bacon of Brooklyn Park, MN, Donna (Scott) Costello Champlin, MN, Debra (Russell) Jordan of Staples, MN, Diane Vasecka of White Bear Township, MN, and Dar Swanson of Blaine, MN; 18 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; special friend, Shirley Denning; and mother of his children, Lorraine Kresa.
