Charles J. Schlichting, 71, of Crosslake, passed away surrounded by his family at his home on the lake on Saturday, February 23, 2019.
A Celebration of Charles’ Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. Fr. Blake Rozier will officiate. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will take place at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake.
Charles was born July 11, 1947, in Little Falls, MN, the son of Carl and Adeline (Saulter) Schlichting. After school, Charles started his career at the USPS where he spent 33 years working the night shift at the main office in St. Paul. In 1970, he married Janel Tholkes. They enjoyed 48 years together.
After retiring, Charles was able to spend much earned time on the lake where he liked to fish. He looked forward to the annual gathering of his old friends from the USPS at his home – they fished, shared stories, and had many laughs. He also liked hunting. He never tired of watching the birds from his deck while enjoying a cocktail.
He will be missed by his wife, Janel (Tholkes) Schlichting; daughters, Deanna (Shawn Burke, Sr.) Steuernagel and Amy (Kent) Spindler; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Neko (the dog). He is also survived by his siblings, Jeannie (Larry) Cottew, Jim (Sue) Schlichting, Lorraine (Frank) Benson, Paul (Diane) Schlichting, Katie (Dave) Eckman, and Julie Brill. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Larry and Robert; and his grandson, Jacob Steuernagel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to a non-profit in honor of Charlie’s grandson, Jake’s Hope (6467 152nd Street North – Hugo, MN 55038 - jakeshope1994.com)
