Charles Oliver Pickar, Sr. was born in Nimrod, MN, the son of Clarence C. and Edna A. (Rice) Pickar. He was called from this life June 8, 2006, in Decatur, IL, attaining the age of 74 years, 4 months, and 5 days.
At an early age Charles and his family moved to Brainerd where he grew up and attended school. After his schooling he enlisted in the Air Force, serving his country for 3 years. Returning to Minnesota he went to work in the mines near Hibbing. He then moved back to Brainerd where he did carpentry work and also worked for a time in Russells Creamery. He then became a millwright building power plants in almost all of the 48 states. Health problems forced him to retire in January of 2000. At the time he was working for Kraft Foods in Champaign, IL. He loved to fish, hunt, and fly, in 1951 he earned his private pilot license and over the year owned and operated 2 different airplanes. He was a member of the Masons and also the Shriners.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Edna; a brother, James; and a sister, Arleen. He is mourned in passing by his children, Linnie E. (Everett Sr.) Eastling of Sebeka, MN, Charles O. (Cathy) Pickar, Jr. of Brainerd, MN, Claude P. (Carm) Pickar of Riverdale, MI, and Clarence A. (Becky) Pickar of Menahga, MN; former wife but special friend, Elsie Pickar of Sebeka, MN; 5 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Roger (Dorothy) Pickar of Brainerd, MN; sister, Frances, (James) Bourassa of Brainerd, MN.
