Charles ?Chuck? McMahon, age 42, of Crosslake died Monday, February 21, 2005 as the result of a work-related accident. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 25, 11 a.m., at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, with Reverend Father Dennis Hoffman officiating. Friends may visit Thursday, February 24, 5-8 p.m., at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, with parish prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation will also be at the church on Friday during the hour prior to Mass. Services will be followed by cremation, with interment at Pinewood Cemetery in Crosslake. Memorials may be directed to Camp Cuyuna in Crosslake.
Charles Bernard McMahon was born December 27, 1962 in Marshall, to Bernard and Delphine (Tholkes) McMahon. Although he moved with his family to St. Louis Park at a young age, he was always a farm boy at heart. He graduated from Park High School in St. Louis Park. While still in high school he began working at Camp Cuyuna as a staff cook. His love of the Camp and the outdoors led him to move to Crosslake, where he was employed by the Boy Scouts of America, Twin Valley Council. He had worked at Camp Cuyuna for eighteen years, serving as Camp Ranger for the past eight years. He was united in marriage to Andrea Besnett, the mother of his children, in Mankato on April 4, 1986. The couple later divorced. He enjoyed dog sledding, and was recently featured on a PBS television segment. He was a loving, outgoing man who was always kind and non-judgmental. He loved his work with children. He and his fiancée, Melissa Hagelie, had planned to marry on August 13, 2005.
Chuck is loved and deeply missed by his parents, Bernard and Delphine McMahon, St. Louis Park; his fiancé, Melissa Hagelie, Crosslake; his children, Zachary, age 16 and Alyxandra, age 15, both at home with their mother in Breezy Point; his sisters, Connie (Ed) Bloom, Hibbing, Carol (Neil) Hoffmann, New Ulm, Dorothy (Ed) Lammers, Longville, Donna (Dennis) Berg, Courtland, Janet (Tom) Mahaffey, Coon Rapids, Mary (Ron) Schneider, Winona, and Theresa (John) Crelly, Golden Valley; his former wife, Andrea Besnett; 31 nieces and nephews; 20 sled dogs, and ?Peepers,? his Shih-tzu-poo.
