Charles "Art" McCoy, age 89, of Pine River, entered Heaven on September 6, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in Roseau County, MN, on July 24, 1927. Charles enlisted in the Navy at age 17, serving in World War II. He would kiddingly say the enemy surrendered when they heard he was on his way. He married Laura Rose Blair on February 4, 1952. Charles worked as a crane operator building roads until he retired in 1992. He also enjoyed raising beef on his farm west of Pine River.
Charles had very good work ethics and was very precise in his carpentry work. He was sweet, kind, stubborn and generous, always helping his family whenever they asked and worrying about them constantly. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, carpentry and spending time with his grandkids and great grandkids.
Charles is survived by his children: Catherine Sandberg (Brian) of Savage, Laura Garten (Bill) of Baxter, Charles M. McCoy (Donna) of Pine River, Charlene Ekeren (Steve) of Big Lake, Marlene Cheshire of Pine River, Melissa Fashant (Mike) of Prior Lake; brothers: Harry McCoy, Barney McCoy; sister, Shirley Feakes; 18 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Laura; infant daughter; infant son, Arthur; brothers, Douglas, Max; grandson, Scotty; and great granddaughter, Ariel.
Services will be 2 PM on Sunday, September 11, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be Saturday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River.
