Charles F. Bruckelmyer, 101, of Merrifield, died on August 24, 2019 at Essentia – Saint Joseph Medical Center in Brainerd. Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel, Baxter. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in Glenhaven Cemetery in Crystal at a later date.
Charles was born June 26, 1918 to John and Ida (Anderson) Bruckelmyer in Minneapolis. He married Lorraine Johnson, and together they had two children. Charles served in the Army during WWII, and returned home to work for the Minneapolis Northfield and Southern Railway (Soo Line) for over 40 years until his retirement. He was known for being able to fix anything, and for his avid skills as a ski-jumper, which earned him the nickname “The Flying Dutchman”. Charles was always happy, and his hunting, fishing and guitar skills will live on through future generations.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol (Terry) Washburn, of Pelican Rapids; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and 11, soon to be 13, great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Bruckelmyer; son, Loren (Amy) Bruckelmyer; grandson, Michael Dotseth; a great great grandson, Ryan Dickson and two brothers, Richard “Dickie” and Edward (Betty) Bruckelmyer.
