Dr. Charles F. Benzie
March 29, 1934 - June 25, 2016
Dr. Charles Ferdinand Benzie, 82, of Pillager, Minn., passed away peacefully at his home on June 25, 2016, after a short, but courageous battle with cancer. Interment with Military Honors will be held on Friday, July 1, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley. There will be a luncheon to follow at the Fort Ripley City Park, Fort Ripley, Minnesota.
Charles was born March 29, 1934, in Onamia, the son of Holton and Dymer (Sjodin) Benzie. After graduating high school in Onamia, Charles was drafted into the U.S. Army. After his service in the Army he earned his D.D.S. from the University of Minnesota in 1964. In 1986, he married Gloria Vargo. Dr. Benzie retired in 1997 from Brainerd Regional Human Services Center after 26 years of dental service.
Charles was a pilot and enjoyed flying airplanes. He was an outdoorsman and loved all pets - especially dogs, and his best buddy, Belle.
He will be missed and is survived by his loving wife, Gloria; step-children, Jamie (Dennis) Aldin, Kimberly DeLong, Rick (Tracy) Wallin, Lianne (Tony) Tibbetts; children, Chuck Benzie, Tim (Kitty) Benzie, Lorie (Tracy) Kennedy, Sue (Dave) Marchel, and Beth; grandchildren, Dylan (Katelyn), Dalton (Hanna), Sabrina (Nate), Logan, Emma, Braden, Eric, Shaun, Kate (Jason); great-grandchildren, Dawson and Ava; sister, Billie Mahaney; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mercein "Petsy". Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
