Ceaburn Squires

October 21, 1916 — November 5, 2013

Ceabern H. Squires, 97, of New Hope, MN, passed away on November 5, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village - Bethany in Brainerd, MN. Ceabern was born October 21, 1916 near Rolfe, IA. He graduated from Colo, IA in 1934 and went on to Simpson College. After his graduation, he taught two years of high school in Blencoe, IA where he met his future wife, Irene. He then entered military service and during WWII served as an officer in the 13th Air Force 868th Squadron "Snoopers" in the Pacific Theatre. After the war, Ceabern taught science in Belmond, IA and later served as high school principal. In 1952, he and his family moved to Robbinsdale, MN. He joined the engineering department at Honeywell where he worked for many years on projects such as the Apollo moon landing. He also worked at Alliant Tech Systems. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge and served in a number of positions at the United Church of Christ in Robbinsdale. In his early years, he enjoyed camping with his family in Northern Minnesota. After purchasing a cabin on Horseshoe Lake near Brainerd, he and Irene would spend as much time as possible "at the lake." He waterskied into his mid 80s. He loved square dancing, and he continued to participate until his early 1990s. He was deeply interested in all things mechanical, HO trains, and loved repair projects. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; his parents; a sister; and a brother. He is survived by brothers, Glenn, and Stanley (Betty) Squires; children, Kenneth (Carol) Squires and Janyce (Richard) Hansen; grandchildren, Jeanne (Pat) Qualley, Chad (Beth) Hansen, Julie (Bruce) Cramer, Tanya (Jean-Brice) Ponte, and Jennifer (Stefan) Lipton; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Robbinsdale United Church of Christ (4200 Lake Road) on Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Memorials Preferred.
