Catherine was born February 8, 1913 at Randolph, Wisconsin. She followed her older sister to California, where she worked as a nanny and a waitress. She met Delbourne G. Reck, a Navy radioman, at a dance near his post in Oakland, California. They were married February 28, 1942. During the war years she followed her husband across the country twice, to New York and then back to California. Post WWII, the family moved to Walhalla, North Dakota where they operated a restaurant and Cathie was the chef. The family then lived briefly in Grand Forks, North Dakota prior to moving to Mentor, Minnesota. She worked in the grocery business in Mentor and later in Fertile, Minnesota when she lived in rural Gary, Minnesota. She moved to the Brainerd area 32 years ago to reopen the Lonesome Pine Resort on Bay Lake with her husband. The main drawing card of the resort was the delicious food she prepared. They sold the resort in 1979 and moved to a home on Lake Edward. For the next ten years Catherine worked in the food service industry in the Brainerd area. During her retirement years she enjoyed gardening. One of her specialties was raspberries, which she sold to a local super market. Additionally, she hosted card parties for her neighbors and gigantic Fourth of July parties for her extended family.
She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Rodney Ford and Jackie and Al Hohenstein; sons and daughters-in-law, George and Robbie Reck and Jerry and Jane Reck. She also had seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and her husband of 63 years, Delbourne.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Good Samaritan Village or your favorite charity in her name.
