Catherine Johnson

June 2, 1931 — June 2, 2010

Catherine (Katie) L. Johnson, age 79, of Motley, passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 2, 2010.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at Faith Lutheran Church, Staples. Interment will be at a later date.

Katie was born June 2, 1931, in Ord, Nebraska, to Jake and Martha Walahoski. In 1950, after graduation, Katie married Delyle Johnson. They were together 60 years. She was a dedicated nurse and caregiver, loved and respected by many. In 1955, after moving from Colorado to Minnesota, she worked at the Staples Hospital until 1963 when Dr. Ted Lewica opened the Lakewood Clinic and Katie became his right hand. In 1966, Dr. William Mennis came to Staples and she worked beside him for 29 years. Through this relationship, the Lakewood Healthcare System began. After her retirement and diagnosis of her cancer, she served as a valuable asset on the hospital board for 12 years.

Katie truly loved life, was a master at crocheting, loved a carpentry challenge, she lit up a room with her entertaining personality. As full as her life was, she found time for family and friends, always listening without judgement.

She will be missed by husband, Delyle; children: Jim Johnson (Kathy) of Nisswa, Jack Johnson of Fargo, Jude Johnson of Motley; grandchildren: Chan, Willow, Joseph, Jeremy, Paul and Aaron; 8 great grandchildren; brother, David Walahoski of Newman Grove, NE; sister, Delores Chalupa of Omaha, NE; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant brother, Raymond. Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home, Pequot Lakes.
