Catherine Gilman

Catherine (Kay) Claudette Gilman, age 90, of Pine River, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009. She was born July 29, 1919, in Argo, IL, to Simon and Rose Cisek.

Kay and her husband, Ed, owned and operated a resort in Fifty Lakes for 35 years. After retiring, they spent many winters in Mexico where Kay taught English to the youth and brought clothing from her garage sale ventures to the poor Mexican Indians. They later moved to Riverside Villa assisted living apartments in Pine River. Kay was very active in her church choir and loved music, languages (especially Polish), going to the casino, garage sales, and chocolate. She had a good sense of humor and loved helping others.

Kay is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 68 years, Edward; children: Gary (Marilyn) of Willmar, Cathy Switajewski (Tim) of Pine River, Mary Kay Novakoske (Larry) of Little Falls, Dennis of Scottsdale, AZ, and Rose Gilman of Pine River; twelve grandchildren: Joe, Trina, Hope, Beth, Rory, Brady, Angie, Annemarie, Rob, Emily, Dylan, Alex; twelve great grandchildren; and sister, Mary Lambert of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her son, Donald, her parents and sisters.

Services will be 11 AM on Tuesday, September 1, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River, with Father George Zeck officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 PM, with Rosary at 7 PM, at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
