Carol Holden

August 14, 1922 — January 8, 2018

Carol Rosena (Brant) Holden August 14, 1922 - January 8, 2018

Carol Holden went to her home in heaven on January 8, 2018. A Memorial for Carol will be held on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 1:00PM in Finland, MN at the Claire Nelson Community Center.

She was born to Delbert and Jenny Brant in Poplar, MN. Her siblings were Evelyn, Lynn, Faith, Esther, two infant sisters, Dale, Floyd, Alma and Alvin. She married Bob R. Holden (August 15, 1920 – January 11, 2006) on January 13, 1941; they were married 65 years! They had eight children: Roger (Naomi) Holden, Alan (Linda) Holden, Linda (Ken) Westin, Kathryn (David) Berry, Lavonne Christensen, Laura (Jon) Ward, Paul (Darcy)Holden, Mary (Kerry) Pylka. Carol will be missed by her children, 25 grandchildren, 40 great- grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren!

Carol was a much loved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-great- Grandmother and dear friend to countless others. She was the definition of a “hands on” Grandma with an open door policy and food on the table and welcome mat always out. She was an excellent cook from home made bread, pies, cakes, cookies, moose pancakes and seven course meals, with a rare talent of having several items done to perfection all at the same time!! One of her greatest joys was to prepare a meal for company, it is without a doubt that her and Bob spent more money on food for others then for themselves in their later years

Besides loving and enjoying time with her family, Carol was a servant in the churches she attended, mainly, Backus Church of the Nazarene, Palisade Baptist Church, and Two Harbor Evangelical Free Church. She taught classes to children of all ages and helped wherever she could. She volunteered for political parties, candidates, and worked for the precincts. She helped in her children’s’ schools as PTA president.

Carol loved the outdoors: camping with Bob & family in northern Minnesota and Canada which included fishing, of course. She loved gardening both flowers and vegetables. She walked daily in Finland but also loved hiking with kids and grandkids. She hiked up to 10,000 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park when she was 88 and 4-wheeled up to 10,000 feet in Montana in her 80’s. She cross-country skied in beautiful Superior National Forest. One of her favorite summer pastimes was picking berries with whomever could tag along. At sedentary times (which wasn’t very often), she loved books, playing games (Scrabble) and embroidered keepsakes for kids and grandkids. There was always fun wherever she was and she will be missed. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
