Calvin Marcus Bristow, age 88, of Backus, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009. He was born July 2, 1920 in Whittemore, Iowa, to Clyde and Grace Bristow. He served in the US Army during World War II in the European Theatre. Calvin moved to Pine River in 1950 where he farmed and also built numerous golf courses.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Shirley; children: Raphael Dabill (Bill) of Backus, Mary Lou Bristow of Austin, TX, Calvin Jr. "Marc" Bristow (Bonnie) of Backus, Michael Bristow (Barbara) of Sauk Rapids, Tom Bristow (Karen) of Backus, Conrad Bristow (Ellen) of Backus, Julie Brown (Al) of Chanhassen; brother, Homer Bristow of Algona, Iowa; sister, Thelma Sheely of Algona; 20 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph, Mervin, and Richard, grandchildren, Kathy, Wade, Patrick and Nicole, and daughter-in-law, Sandra.
Services will be 11 AM on Wednesday, June 3, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Pine River, with Father George Zeck officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
