Calvin Eugene Baker, 92, formerly of Aitkin, died September 5, 2015 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter.
He was born on November 16, 1922, in Los Angeles, CA, to Myron and Kathryn (Honnald) Baker. He graduated from Wealthwood School. He was married to Mabel Barneveld on October 18, 1947.
Calvin worked for Continental Can Company in Mankato, MN for over 30 years. He was a member of Glory Baptist Church in Aitkin and one of the founders of AA in Aitkin. Calvin enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and trained to be a pilot. He was honorably discharged in 1945 when WWII ended.
While born in California, Calvin moved to Minnesota as an infant and his family settled in the Crosby area and finally relocated to the Aitkin area. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was also an accomplished trapper and logger. He was a member of the American Legion, Post 86.
Calvin is survived by his aunt, Maxine Redlington; daughters, Alyce Love, of Red Wing and Cynthia (Charles) Gray, of Louisville, KY; sons, Brant (Denise) Baker, of Brainerd and Richard Baker, of Aitkin; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Calvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mabel; brother, Myron.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the Glory Baptist Church in Aitkin with a visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow the service and lunch will be served at the church.
