Byron “Babe” Huntington Clifford Jr., 77, of Brainerd, MN died at St. Cloud Hospital on Monday, October 8, 2018. Services for Babe will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 2:00PM with visitation at 1:00PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN where arrangements have been entrusted.
Babe was born on June 20, 1941 in Little Falls, MN to Byron “Red” Huntington Clifford Sr. and Emma Ruth Clark. He graduated from Washington High School in 1959. He married Cheryl Filteau in Brainerd, MN on July 10, 1963. They made their home and raised their family in Brainerd. His family was very proud that Babe served in the United States Army National Guard. Babe rose to the position of Assistant Manager for Schaefer’s Red Owl Grocery Store, later he became caretaker of Ours Resort (UFCW #653) in Lutsen, MN. Babe was proud to be a volunteer fireman for the Brainerd Fire Department. He was a member of the Baxter Lion’s Club, Brainerd American Legion, and also Local UFCW #653. Babe loved/hated watching the Minnesota Vikings.
Babe is survived by his children, Kristi (Mark) Halverson of Farmington, MN, Vicki (Ricky) Sims of St. Cloud, MN, Tami (Tim) Rudlong of Big Lake, MN, and Trevor (Courtenay) Clifford of Skagway, AK; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Kay (Brian) Johnson of Baxter, MN; step-sister, Nancy (Scott) Murphy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Byron “Red” Sr. and Ruth Clifford; step-mother, Darlene Clifford; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Patty Clifford; step brother-in-law, Keith Boucher; and great-nieces, Kylee Jo Copa and Kaylin Johnson; and special friend, Linda Judkins. Memorials are preferred to The Baxter Lions or The Brainerd Fire Department.
