Bill J. Cummings, age 83, long time resident of Island Lake, passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Pine River on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. Services will be held at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River at 11 AM on Monday, March 16, with Father Bruce Engen officiating.
Bill was born to Jack and Gaston Cummings in Dallas, TX on December 18, 1925. He served with the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a member of the 70th Bombardment Squadron, and due to injuries he received, was awarded a Battle Star for the French Indo-China Coast Campaign and another for the Borneo Campaign. After his discharge from the service he moved to Alaska where he met his wife, Carol. Upon returning to the lower 48, Bill went on to become a flight engineer for TWA, flying international flights until his retirement in 1977. Bill loved to go on fishing trips to Mexico with his brother, Tom, and enjoyed golfing and fishing with his buddy, Jim Eide. He always had many stories to tell of his adventures.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol, sister, Wanda Black, brother, Tom Cummings, nephew, Dick Black, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Peter and Dorothy Dippong, brother-in-law, Allen Zaske, and special friend, Kathy Babcock. He leaves to mourn his passing, sisters-in-law, Carol Cummings and Dolores Zaske; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Bill will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
A private burial will take place at Ponto Lake Cemetery at a later date.
