Beulah Hendricks

Beulah May Hendricks passed away on Tuesday, November 29th, 2011 at the Meritcare Health System hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

Born on June 27th, 1918 in New Market, Iowa, she was the daughter of Wilbert and Julia Deibel. As a true pioneer, at age five her family moved to Walker, Minnesota setting up homestead in a small log cabin; having chosen the location for better health and a raspberry patch. She lived a long full life, believing that "the harder you work the luckier you become."

She worked hard and lived life to the fullest with a great love for family and friends, gardening, supporting the community, and the beauty of Northern Minnesota. She graduated from Walker High School before starting work as a cook for a neighboring dairy farm and then held a job doing laundry at Ah-Gwah-Ching, before working at the Register of Deeds Office. When Mr. Peterson retired she was appointed County Recorder and served in this position until her retirement. She was the President and owner of the Cass County Abstract Company, and served as the first woman president of the Minnesota Land and Title Association.

Beulah's garden was amazing! She planted over a 100 dahlia bulbs each year, had a vegetable garden that her family lovingly joked could feed an army, and baked 50-100 apple pies each year from her own apple trees. She survived the long Minnesota winters gleefully reviewing seed catalogs to plan for the next summer.

She also had a passion and gift for sewing and crocheting, making many hats, mittens, quilts, tablecloths, doll clothes, and bedspreads for family and those in need. She won top honors at the Minnesota State Fair for a crocheted tablecloth.

An avid outdoorswoman she took her son deer hunting to shoot his first deer at eleven and helped him run a trap line to earn spending money. She had a great love for nature and being outside.

Beulah was a member of the League of Women Voters, Minnesota Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club, Rebekah Lodge, Walker Chamber of Commerce, Leader of the Leech Lake Live Wires 4H Club, The Home Study Club and various other organizations. She was also a member of the Hope Lutheran Church where she served in a leadership capacity. She often brought fresh vegetables from her garden to church, and for the Lutefisk supper one year supplied seven or eight bushels of potatoes!

She inspired many with her incredibly positive outlook, drive to succeed in life and being true to herself living as she wanted. She is predeceased by her parents, sister Thelma Marie Deibel, and grandson John Brian Hendricks. Beulah is survived by her son Bill Hendricks and his wife, Mary Hendricks of Pine River; grandchildren Stephanie Reynolds and her husband, Bryon, of Chandler, AZ., Katherine Loscalzo and her husband, Anthony of Montclair, NJ; great-grandchildren Abigail Reynolds and Ella and Caroline Loscalzo.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation and funeral. The visitation will be held on Monday, December 5th from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Hope Lutheran Church, 305 Tenth Street, Walker. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 6th at 11:00 A.M., Hope Lutheran Church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Walker.
