Betty was born on All Saints Day, November 1, 1933 in Sogan Valley near Cannon Falls, Minnesota to Walter and Jesse (Green) Stafford. She was united in marriage to Al Thorpe on October 18, 1953. They lived in Northfield, Minnesota where they raised their family and made many great memories. Bettys outgoing personality and many interests started early in life. In highschool she was a cheerleader, majorite and homecoming queen. She had a beautiful voice and loved music. She and Al sang together in the church choir for many years. They also loved dancing and won several dance contests. Betty was a trend setter, ageless and always up with the times. She was the first female deacon in her church. In addition, Betty enjoyed downhill skiing, rug hooking and especially cooking and always trying new recipes. She loved to get down on the floor and play with the grandchildren. Betty had become a legacy in Northfield. During the years of raising their children, Betty and Al spent much time at the lakes and cabins near Crosslake. Upon retirement, Crosslake became their home. They became active members at Crosslake Lutheran Church involving themselves in many church activities A highlight in recent years was a trip to Hawaii with the entire family, including all the grandchildren, to celebrate Betty and Als 50th Wedding Anniversary and Bettys 70th Birthday. Betty was a most compassionate person with a heart of gold. She loved people and in return was loved by all. Helping other people, especially those less fortunate than some was a priority in her life. She always saw the good in everyone, and would acknowledge it. Betty made friends easily, was generous with her time and efforts. Betty is survived by her husband Al of 56 years, children, Vickie (Reed) Eckstrom; Wendy Thorpe; Steve (Kathy) Thorpe; and Tim (Sandy) Thorpe, grandchildren, Leah (Nick) Rivera; Jessica Eckstrom; Sam Twito; Stephanie Thorpe; Isaac Twito; Emma Twito; Trevor Thorpe; and Elliott Eckstrom;, sister, Dorothy (Milbert) Walker, her grandpuppies: Pearl; Sophie;, and Prancer, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and lots of friends.
