Betty Stern, age 75, of Fort Ripley, died Friday, May 21, 2004 at her home. Funeral services will be Monday, May 24, 1 PM, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with Reverend Kristen Kelsey officiating. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veteran?s Cemetery in Camp Ripley. Memorials preferred, to St. Joseph?s Medical Center Hospice of Brainerd. Arrangements entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
Betty Jeannine Baker was born November 2, 1928 in Minneapolis, to Herbert and Adelia (Westerlund) Baker. She grew up and attended school in Minneapolis. She was united in marriage to Robert Stern on June 30, 1949. They lived in Robbinsdale, where Betty was a homemaker and helped with the family florist business. After her children were grown she worked as office manager at Cook Paints for twenty-five years. She and Robert had vacationed at Crow Wing Lake since the 1950?s, and moved here full time in 1992. They wintered in Arizona. Betty was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brainerd. An active, outgoing woman, she enjoyed local politics and volunteered with the League of Women Voters. She belonged to the Order of Eastern Star and the Shriner?s auxiliary. She also served as a volunteer with the North Memorial hospital auxiliary in Robbinsdale. Betty loved to play cards, and belonged to several bridge clubs.

Betty is survived by Robert, her husband of nearly 55 years; her children, Jeanne (Bob) Lindholm, of Duluth, and Robert (Robyn) Stern, of St. Cloud; three granddaughters, Sonya Stern, of Malibu, CA, and Jessica and Rebecca Lindholm, both of Duluth; and two brothers, James (Joan) Baker, of Denver, CO, and Jerry (Vicki) Baker, of Willmar. Her parents preceded her in death.
