Betty Reckmo

Betty M. Reckmo (Allen), age 84, of Crosslake, passed away January 15, 2006 at the St. Josephs Hospital in Brainerd. A Memorial service is planned for Friday Jan. 20 th at 11:30 AM at the Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake, with Pastor Mark Anderson officiating. There will be a time for friends to gather starting one hour before the service.
Betty Margaret Reckmo was born in Crosslake on May 1st, 1921 to Hugh LeGare and Esther (Erickson) Allen. She grew up in Crosslake and graduated from Brainerd High School. In the early 1940's she moved to Minneapolis where she raised her 4 children. Although Betty did not begin working until her mid forties she ended her career as the Chief Financial Officer of United Mailing. In 1986 she moved back to Crosslake. Betty loved to paint and was active in the Crosslake Art Club and the Crosslake Historical Society. She was happiest when she was at her home in the woods on "Betty's pond".

Betty is survived by her children; Gary (Sheila) Swoverland, of Arden Hills, Sharon (John) McCarthy, of East Gull Lake, Bob (Nancy) Swoverland, of New Brighton, and Tom (Jo) Swoverland, of Crosslake, grandchildren; Greg, Brad, Stacey, Melissa, John, Mark, Joanna, and Susan, great grandchildren; Christopher and Nicole, and one brother, Robert (Dorothy) Allen, of Crosslake. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Vernon and John, her parents Hugh LeGare and Esther, and a brother Billy. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Crosslake Historical Society or your local Food Shelf.
