Betty Kolb, age 100, of Aitkin, passed away Friday, November 9, at the Aitkin Care Center. Graveside services will take place in the spring at Mount Vernon Cemetery, Hillsboro, WI.
Betty J. Kolb was born on May 26, 1912, in Superior, WI, the daughter of Melvin and Gertrude (Gay) Ward. During her high school years she helped her father in the family bakery. She graduated from Mondovey High School and went on to Normal Training for Teachers in Superior, WI. After her marriage to Russell Kolb she was a housewife and mother but also operated the local telephone switch board out of her home in Minneiska, MN. She moved to the Aitkin area in 1947. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy and loved to spend as much time as she could with them teaching them how to fish.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; sisters, Marlene McAleavy, Evylin Walker, Meredith Amundson, Edith Landerholm, and Gwendlin Heaser; brothers, Robert, James, and Malcolm Ward. Betty will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Pat Simpson of Grovespring, MO; 12 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
