Betty Knutson

April 16, 1913 — March 29, 2012

Betty Isabelle Knutson, age 98, of Pine City and formerly Pine River, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012. She was born April 16, 1913, the daughter of Zelma Mosley and William Bostwick. The Bostwick family, which included brothers Bill and Jack and sisters Katie, Pauline and Marge, were living in Henry, Illinois, at the time. Most of Betty's younger years were spent near Spencer, Iowa, and Okoboji, Iowa. In 1933, Betty moved with her family to Pine River, and worked as a cook at the local hotel.

It wasn't long before Betty's pretty blue eyes and auburn hair caught the attention of John Knutson. They were married two years later and spent the next 68 years together. Most of those years would be spent at their home northwest of Pine River where they raised five children: Carole, Muriel, Peggy, John and Julie.

Betty enjoyed gardening, sewing, raising African violets, reading and playing cards. She also loved to dance and she had the smoothest partner on the floor. In fact, Betty and John danced in complete harmony throughout their lives. Betty was loved and respected by family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Carole Carey, Muriel Miller, Peggy Rittmiller, John A. Knutson (Sue), and Juli Raeth (Lee); 12 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Knutson; grandchildren, Greg Rittmiller, Stacy Rittmiller, Tim Carey and Scott Rittmiller; two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be 1 PM on Monday, April 2, at First Lutheran Church, Pine River, with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Burial will follow at Pine Ridge Cemetery, Pine River. Visitation will be Sunday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
