Betty Hurd

Betty Joy Hurd, age 88, of Pequot Lakes, passed away Monday, August 23, 2021, at Northland Meadows (Pine River Group Homes), Pequot Lakes. She was born to Elmer and Cecil Hurd on February 17, 1933, in Hackensack. Betty spent her childhood in Hackensack and had fond memories of that town. She would often speak of Birch Lake and her home “near the big pine tree”.

Betty first came to Pine River Group Home in 1978.  She then lived in the Minnesota State Hospital system, including Brainerd and Ah-Gwah-Ching, before coming back to Pine River in 1993. She worked at the Pine River Area DAC before retiring. Betty was always up for a good time or an adventure; she loved holidays, picnics, sending and receiving mail, parties, fishing, singing, and puzzle books. Betty was patriotic and proud of the Pine River American Legion and the American flag. Betty had nicknames for many of her staff and loved to tease them. She will be missed by all of us.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Richard and James. She is survived by a few cousins, nieces and nephews, her many loving staff and all her friends everywhere.

Services 11 AM, Wednesday, Sept. 1 at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River. Visitation one hour prior. Burial in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack.
