Betty Lyons Haskin, 85, of Staples, passed away Sunday, September 4, 2016 at the Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples. Services for Betty will be at 2:00PM, Saturday, September 10 at the Staples Congregational Church, with Pastor Tony Romaine officiating. Visitation for Betty will be from 4-8PM, Friday, September 9 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples, MN.
Betty was born January 1, 1931 in Staples, to Arthur and Ethel (Bastin) Lyons. She lived her whole life in Staples. After school, she worked at the Ben Franklin store in Staples. Betty was united in marriage to Byron (Bud) Haskin on July 18, 1950 in Staples, MN. They bought the Phillips 66 gas station on Hwy 210 from Bud's father, with Bud working the service station and Betty a homemaker. After the kids were in their later years of schooling, Betty worked for Goepherd Furniture and License Bureau Department. She took the License Bureau over and bought it and ran that until 1998. Betty enjoyed working for the Cemetery Board for the last 15 years. Bud and Betty owned a cabin on Fishtrap Lake and they so enjoyed their time at the cabin. Later on if you wanted to find her, she was often on the bus going to one of the many casinos she loved to go to and played games with her friends. One thing for sure, you never left her house without a care package. Betty loved to bake and has a passion for baking cookies. She and Bud truly enjoyed their lives together.
Betty is survived by her loving husband, Byron (Bud) Haskin; two sons, Larry (Cathy) Haskin of Maple Grove, Scott (Pamela) Haskin of Verndale; daughter, Linda (Jeff) Johnson of Staples; grandchildren, Mallory, Claire, Jamie, Alisha, Ashley, Crystal, Jeremy; five great grandchildren, Ally, Caden, Caleb, Ryleigh, Hailey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ethel Lyons; parents in law, James and Hilma Haskin; brother, Ralph (Elaine) Lyons; and one granddaughter. Betty will be always loved and truly missed by many family members and others. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
