Bert Eveland

Bert Eveland passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior on September 29, 2014, at the age of 90. He was born in Backus to Ray and Flora (Arbogast) Eveland on September 28, 1924, one of a pair of twins. At the age of ten he invited Jesus Christ into his life. He graduated from Backus High School, Northwestern College, and also attended the University of Minnesota. In 1948 he married Fern Peterson in Minneapolis. Over the years, he and Fern lived in Minneapolis, Backus, Motley and Eagan, returning to Backus to retire in 1988. Wherever he lived, he was very active in the churches he attended. During his working years he was a surveyor for the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and in his retirement he volunteered as a driver for Cass County Transportation for the Elderly until health issues forced him to resign.

Bert is survived by his wife of 66 years, Fern; daughters: LaRae (Tim) LaTourelle, Tammi (Bob) Hall; grandchildren: Brandon (Aileen) LaTourelle, Emily LaTourelle, Natalie Hall; brothers: Duane (Donna), Donald (Mary), Larry (Elizabeth); sisters: Carol Eveland, Mona Bean; sisters-in-law: Irene Eveland and Sandra Eveland.

Services will be 2 PM on Saturday, October 4, at Lakeside Baptist Church, Backus. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Backus. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
