Bernadine Syhre, age 93, of Pine River, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at Brookside Comfort Care in Pine River. She was born on May 1, 1918 in Luray, Missouri, to John and Grace Black.
Bernadine grew up in Luray, Missouri and Little Falls, Minnesota. She married Reuben Syhre on January 28, 1939 in Little Falls. They farmed in the Freedhem area and Bernadine was a helpmate to Reuben on the farm as well as raising a garden and caring for their three daughters, Lois, Joyce and Marilyn. In 1958 the family moved to Pine River and Bernadine cooked at the Pine Wood cafe several years. She then cared for her mother in her home until her mother passed away. Bernadine served as the cook for a number of years at Solid Rock Bible Camp near Cushing, Minnesota. She produced many wonderful meals for many campers and visitors with the help of Reuben and her granddaughters, Kristie and Stacy. Bernadine's loves in life were her Lord and Savior, her family, her church and reading her Bible. She read the Bible completely through at least fifty times during her life. She also loved to crochet and make warm quilts which she gave away to many thankful recipients.
Bernadine is survived by her daughters, Joyce Mell (Duane) of Apache Junction, Arizona, and Marilyn Norling (Arlan) of Fargo, North Dakota, twelve grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Bernadine is also survived by her sister, Lavonna Miller, of Little Falls, Minnesota.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband, Reuben, in 2007, her daughter Lois, in 2004, her son-in-law, Fred Sommer, her parents and her sisters, Goldabell and Lucille.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2012 at the Kline Funeral Home in Pine River with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Freedhem Evangelical Free Cemetery, Freedhem, MN at a later time.
