Bernice Peterson

PETERSON, Bernice A. - Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed away on April 28, 2016 at the Little Falls Care Center. She was 95, and she passed peacefully.

Bernice Adelaide Doris Larson was born November 29, 1920 in St. Paul, MN to Frank W. & Elsie P. (Christensen) Larson. She lived and was raised in Darling, Randall, and Little Falls, MN. She graduated from Little Falls High School in 1938 and Teacher's Training School in 1939. She taught country school in Morrison County until her marriage to Vernon E. Nelson of Randall in 1941.

Vernon and Bernice lived in many places throughout Minnesota: starting in Randall, then to New Ulm, Redwood Falls, St. James, and finally to Thief River Falls in 1960. There, they ran Vernon's State Farm Insurance agency until his death in 1978. Throughout their life together, Vernon and Bernice loved family, fishing, and friends.

Bernice married Albert (Bert) W. Peterson in 1981. They lived in Thief River Falls, MN and Mesa, AZ until his death in 2004. She moved to Little Falls, MN in 2011. Bernice and Bert loved to travel - they enjoyed trips to Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and many more places.

Bernice was a lifetime Member of the Sons of Norway and American Legion Auxiliary. She was an amazing card player and taught many generations how to enjoy card playing as well. She nourished her artistic talents in retirement with many paintings and scratch art. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Cushing, MN.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon E. Nelson; husband, Albert W. Peterson; her parents; her brothers, Waldon F. Larson and Dwain F. Larson; and step-son, Albert Ludwig Peterson Jr. She is survived by - and will be dearly missed by - children Bruce V. Nelson (Clar), Bonita Lou "Bonne" Sampson, Terry L. Nelson (Judy), John D. Nelson (Phyllis), Evelyn B. Moore (Ned), step-daughters Joy Peterson and Susan Bleeker (Mike), 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews & dear friends.

Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 2, 2016 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 25430 Bison Rd, Cushing, MN 56443 with a Family Visitation at 10 AM, Funeral Service 11 AM & lunch to follow.
