Bernice Mae Novotny, 92, of Crosslake, died Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Elder Homestead in Minnetonka, MN. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Faith Presbyterian Church (12007 Excelsior Blvd, Hopkins, MN 55343). Family and friends are invited to gather one-hour prior. Interment will take place at Faith Church Cemetery.
Bernice was born May 29, 1921, in Livingston, WI, the daughter of Alvin E. and Lulu E. (Sturdevant) Knutson. In 1941, Bernice was united in marriage to John Novotny. The couple made their home in the Twin Cities area where Bernice was a homemaker. In addition, she also worked outside the home as a waitress for 32 years. In 1977, they moved to Crosslake. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church in Hopkins. Bernice enjoyed gardening and flowers. She loved to cook and was an exceptional seamstress.
She will be missed by her husband, John; children, Sharon Major, of Homosassa, FL, Gary (Jeanne) Novotny, of Chuckey, TN, and Janice Faye Kinsman, of Phoenix, AZ; siblings, Curtis Knutson, of Madison, WI; grandchildren, Jeffrey Oas, Sean Nicol, Scott Kinsman, and Amber Heller; and great-grandchildren, Brooke Nicol, Blake Heller, Braden Heller, and Brice Heller. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Betty Schrader, Evelyn Johns, Elvyria Peterson, Luella Novotny, Doris Wells, Everett Knutson, and Calvin Knutson.
