Bernerd Jerome Borgie, 78, of Brainerd, a 39-year employee with Honeywell, died August 2, 2018. A Celebration of Bernerd’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 11 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. He will be buried with his wife Joanne Borgie, who died last year, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at 11:30 a.m., Monday, August 13, 2018.
Bernerd was born June 30, 1940, in Hazel, MN the son of Oscar and Eunice (Peterson) Borgie. In 1958, he graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. He moved to Minneapolis and began working for Honeywell prior to being drafted into the US Army in 1962. In December of 1962, he married Joanne Pribula. Following his honorable discharge in 1964, he returned to Honeywell where he retired from in 1996 after 39 years of service. Bernerd and Joanne moved to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 2006.
Bernerd was a strong man, who was able to survive, not one but two deadly crashes in his lifetime. He was in a train crash in 1962 and in a plane crash 30 years ago. A member of the American Legion, Bernerd also enjoyed bowling, yardwork, and telling stories.
He will be missed by his children, Michael (Cathy) Borgie, of Fargo, ND and Suzanne (Mark) Hill, of Ostego; brother, Gene Borgie; grandchildren, Holly Ainslie, Andrea Hill, Nicholas Hill, and Abigail Hill; and great-grandchildren, Noelle Hill, Archer Ainslie, Neala Hill and Virginia Ainslie. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joanne; infant daughter, Jacqueline; parents, Oscar and Eunice; and two sisters.
