Beatrice Snyder

Beatrice Snyder (Bettie) passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Edgewood Vista in Brainerd, MN. Bettie was born on a farm near Otho, Iowa on October 4, 1916 to Josephine and Ernst Stromberg. Later they moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa where her father pioneered the hatchery business. After graduating from high school and business college, she worked in her father’s business.

She met her husband, Chet, at Bar Harbor on Gull Lake in 1941 and they were married in 1942 in Lakehurst, New Jersey where Chet was a blimp pilot. They were married for 66 years. She was a volunteer for St. Joseph’s Medical Center and active in her church, First Lutheran, with Miriam Circle and the Altar Guild. She loved to do crafts, to cook and entertain, and to play bridge and golf. She was also active in the local P.E.O. Chapter well into her 90s. She was proud to be an active 100-year-old who was looking forward to her 101st birthday in October.

Bettie is survived by her daughter, Debby Snyder; two grandchildren, Lindsay Sander (Chris Harshbarger) and Stephen (Kelly) Sander; and two great-grandchildren, Avery and Evan. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Chet; daughter, Sandra Jo; and brothers, Loyl, Gale and Wayne. Memorials to First Lutheran Church. Thank you to her friends and caregivers at Edgewood Vista who were so kind to her during her last years.

A Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, August 24, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor John Stiles officiating. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services and to stay for a lunch to follow. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery in Brainerd.
