Aubrey BarneyBarnett, age 77, of Long Prairie, formerly of Staples, died early this afternoon, March 14, 2006, at the Long Prairie Nursing Home, Long Prairie. Memorial Service will be on Monday, March 20, 2:00 pm, with Rev. Wes Johnson officiating, at Long Prairie Memorial Nursing Home. Aubrey was born in Crystal Falls, MI and worked on his grandparents farm. He enjoyed working with the team of horses his grandfather had, he joined the United States Navy on May 8, 1946 serving as an A3. He had an honorable discharge on March 4, 1948 after serving in the Navy he sailed with the Merchant Marines in the Great Lakes Area. He lived in Duluth for many years. He moved to Staples in the late 1980s. He enjoyed trains, baseball, the outdoors and fishing. He spent many hours reading train books and talking about trains. His interests in trains grew when he moved to staples, He also enjoyed skiing and his best ski jump was 120 feet. He is survived by brother Don (Cheryl) of Duluth, and brother-in-law Richard Chenoweth and wife of Staples and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathy (Strom) and parents, Dorothy and Aubrey.
