Arnold “Arnie” Stanley Heinrich, 89, of Brainerd, MN died Sunday, March 22, 2020 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Private family services will be held Saturday, March 28, 2020 at Light Of The Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison, with full military honors. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Arnie was born July 10, 1930 in Minneapolis to Stanley and Gertrude Heinrich. He married Mary Lee “Pat” Barstow on November 26, 1955 in Minneapolis. In 1968, the couple moved to their hobby farm in Garrison. Arnie worked as a truck driver for over 24 years for the Brainerd State Hospital. Arnie was an active member of Light Of The Cross church, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Garrison VFW, Brainerd HAM Radio Club, and spent several years as the President of the AFSCME Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, family camping trips, and his HAM radio. He was inducted into the Army on April 6, 1951, and served in the Korean War until 1952. He then left the Army to join the National Guard as a Sergeant until his retirement in 1978. Arnie was proud of his service, and received various medals, including the Korean Service Medal, W/2 Bronze Service Stars, and the United Nations Service Medal. He will be sincerely missed by his loving family.
Arnie is survived by his children, Bill, Bob (Lori), Lynn, Tom (Amanda) of Brainerd; 8 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; sister, Elaine Smaciarz of Minneapolis; niece; Cheryl; nephew, Curtis.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and loving wife of 64 years, Pat, who died February 14, 2020.
