Arjean F. Stoltz, age 88, of Motley, passed away at her home, with her sons by her side, on Sunday, January 31. A funeral service is planned for Thursday, February 4, at 2:00 PM, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Motley Public Cemetery in the spring.
Arjean was born in Stanton, Nebraska, to Harrison and Minnie Thorp, on July 19, 1921. She graduated from Norfolk High School and worked with her mother washing clothes until 1941. Arjean married Alfred Frederick Stoltz in July 21, 1941 in Denver, CO. They lived in many different States over the years. They ran Stoltzs Resort, a resort-café-bar north of Park Rapids. They raised three boys and traveled across the country visiting friends and family over their life together. Alfred passed away in 1980 and Arjean lived in Motley since then. Time spent with her family and friends was special to her. She was a strong willed person and everyone liked her gentle personality. Arjean will be missed by all that knew her.
Arjean is survived by her sons, Roger (Cheryl Fisher), Phillip, and Ronald (Lisa Reece); 9 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Alfred; her parents; a brother, Chet Thorp; and a sister, Caroline Conklin.
