Archie L. Hirschey, age 94 of Staples, passed away at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud early Monday morning. A memorial service will be held on Saturday Dec. 17th at 11:00 AM at the Congregational UCC in Staples with Rev. Muriel Hachfeld officiating. There will be a time to visit with the family starting at 10:00. Burial will be at the MN State Veterans Cemetery at a later date. Archie was born on June 30th, 1911 to Daniel Henry and Ebba (Stevenson) Hirschey in Clarissa, MN, the first of five children. In 1944 he entered the US Army to fight for his country. In 1956 he married Shirley Hutchenson in Staples before relocating to Hopkins, MN, where Archie worked as a Furniture Refinisher. Then some 36 years ago they returned to the Staples area to farm and run Archies Silver Dollar a restaurant here in town. After retirement he also worked for the Brenny Funeral Home - Belling Huff Chapel. He was a member of the Staples Congregational Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed working with wood, as well as both hunting and fishing. Archie is Survived by his wife Shirley, children; Richard (Karen) Hirschey of Coon Rapids, MN, and Rosemary (Fred) Dukatz of Eagan, MN, step children; Mark (Alice) Dixon of Roanoke, VA, and Todd (Jan) Dixon of Dallas, TX, five grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Ebba (Stevenson) and siblings; Donavon, Clifford, Joy, and Ione. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples.
