Ann Carlson

Ann Carlson, age 95, of Pine River, passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Society, Pine River.

Ann was the fifth of eight children born to Alfred and Cressy (Downing) Ball on November 12, 1917, in Collins, IA. In 1935 she graduated from McCallsberg High School in McCallsberg, IA, and was the valedictorian of her class. Ann continued her education receiving her 2 year teaching degree at Iowa Teachers College in Cedar Falls, IA, which is now Northern Iowa University. Her first job was in Royal, IA, where she met and married Richard Carlson in 1940. The couple moved to Pequot Lakes, MN, where Dick was a builder. During World War II, Ann was Dr. Ayer's assistant, when Dick worked on a military installation in the West Indies. She continued teaching elementary education in the Backus School System, Pequot Lakes, two districts in Phoenix, AZ, and again returning to Pequot Lakes, retiring in 1973.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Diane (Ed) Mada of Dewey, AZ; son, John (Judee) Carlson of Emily, MN; brother, Roger (Louise) Ball of Midland, TX; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard.

Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, November 23, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Pequot Lakes. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
