Angelo Smieja

Angelo M. Smieja "HoneyDear", 88, of Hackensack, MN formally of Cushing, MN died at his home on Monday, March 14, 2016. A Mass of Christian Burial for Angelo will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 11:00AM at St. James Catholic Church in Randall, MN with Father Francis Kabiru officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall, MN from 5:00-7:00PM with a rosary beginning at 6:30PM and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Randall, MN.

Angelo was born on January 19, 1928 near Bowlus, MN in Two Rivers Townhsip to Mike and Mary (Kotzur) Smieja. He was united into marriage to Delona Judd on May 13, 1954 at St. James Catholic Church in Randall. They farmed near Cushing, MN and he also worked in construction and drove truck. He was the Post Master in Cushing for 13 years. When he retired Angelo and Delona built a new home on Widow Lake near Hackensack, MN. Angelo enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, dancing, and a good game of cards. He would tinker or fix anything especially his John Deere Tractors. Angelo was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War, while serving in the Army-AirForce. He was the commander of the VFW in Randall for 4 years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Angelo was one of the original trail bosses for the Morrison County Snowmobile Club. Angelo especially loved spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Angelo is survived by his wife, Delona; children, Damian Smieja of Cushing, MN, Angelo (Margie) Smieja of Long Prairie, MN, Reata (Mark) Waldoch of Cushing, MN, and Delmer (Mary) Smieja of Cushing, MN; sisters, Florence Wodarz, Bernadine Bryniarski, Mary Scepurek, and Rita Weishalla; brother, Michael Smieja; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and five brothers, Paul, David, Donald, Robert and Jerome. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Randall, MN.
