Andrew Kalata

Andrew Kalata, age 83, of Pillager, Minnesota passed away Monday, February 26, 2001 at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd, Minnesota. Services will be Friday, March 2, 2001 at 11:00 AM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, Minnesota with Reverend Robert Osell officiating. Family will receive relatives and friends starting at 9:00 AM at the chapel. Burial will follow in the Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager. Brainerd American Legion Post # 255 will provide the Honor Guard. Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
Andrew Joseph Kalata was born October 29, 1917 in Minneapolis, Minnesota son of Joseph and Nettie Kalata. He was raised in north Minneapolis. He joined the United States Army in 1940 and was honorably discharged in May 1945. Andrew was united in marriage on December 31,1947 in Columbia Heights to Florence Bashore. He worked in building construction most of his working life. They moved to Pillager in 1982 where he has been a resident till his death. He enjoyed fishing and painting pictures. He was a member of the Robbinsdale American Legion.

Andrew is survived by his wife Florence; 2 brothers, Joseph Kalata of Eagan, Minnesota, George Kalata of Seattle, Washington; 4 sisters Genevieve Woodburn of Kansas City, Missouri, Agnes Mickelson and Florence Peterson both of Fridley, Minnesota, Evelyn Bolton of Albuquerque, New Mexico, many nieces and nephews. A brother John and 2 sisters Mary and Helen preceded him in death.
