Alvina "Tootie" Schroeder, 94, of Hackensack, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Birchview Gardens Assisted Living in Hackensack. She was born on October 6, 1919, in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, to John and Elsa Getsinger. Tootie and her husband, Doad owned and operated Doad's Hartz store. After Doad passed away in 1979, she continued to run the family business with their son, David. She retired at age 79. Tootie led a very long and happy life, filled with the joy of working at the store, traveling, bowling, bingo and going to the casino. Known by many and loved by all, she will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
Tootie is survived by her children: Loretta Jenson (Dick) of Brainerd, David Schroeder (Vicki Drewes) of Hackensack, and Nancy Love (Richard) of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doad; grandson, Christopher; sisters, Florence and Ethel; and brother, Henry.
Services will be 11 AM on Saturday, June 7, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hackensack, with Pastor Judy Gustafson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private family inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Hackensack at a later date.
