Alvin John Malecha, age 75, passed away on October 23, 2012 at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center, St. Cloud, MN.
On August 2, 1937, Alvin was born at home in Rice County, MN - the youngest of three children - to Frank and Lillian Malecha.
He attended Millersberg School through 8th grade graduating as "valedictorian" of his class. He received his high school diploma in 1955 from Northfield High School.
Alvin served with honor, in the United States Navy from 1955-1958.
He married Catherine Wiedl on August 26, 1959 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. They were blessed with 7 children.
Alvin was a lineman for Northern States Power, retiring in 1974. Moving their family to Pequot Lakes in 1978, the couple owned and operated Lake Region Grocery/Charlie's Bait Shop/Country Corner for 12 years.
Al enjoyed old-time music, dancing and the Minnesota Vikings but his family and grandchildren were his greatest joy.
Alvin is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Cathy; daughters, Cindy (Mike) Portner of New Ulm, MN, Susan (Jim) Gilbertson of Lakeville, MN; Shari (Gary) Wilson of Pequot Lakes, MN, Patti Evangelist of Elk River, MN, Jane (Kurt) Youngkrantz of Rochester, MN, Nancy Malecha of Pequot Lakes, MN; son, Robert (Jodi) Malecha of Breezy Point, MN; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; a beloved sister, Elaine (Rob) Graff of Northfield, MN; and big brother, Clarence (Virginia) Malecha of Millersberg, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Charles Wiedl and nephews, David Graff and Andrew Malecha.
Visitation will be on Sunday, October 28, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Kline Funeral Home in Pequot Lakes, MN and one hour prior to mass at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Monday, October 29, 2012 at St. Alice Catholic Church in Pequot Lakes. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veteran's Cemetery, Camp Ripley, MN.
Arrangements are with Kline Funeral Home of Pequot Lakes.
