Alma Magdaline DeGeest was born November 29, 1918, in Chippewa County, MN, the daughter of Johann Jacob and Margaretha M. (Ewald) Junker. She was confirmed in her Faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 15, 1932, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Motley, MN. She graduated from Motley High School in 1937. On April 20, 1938, she was united in marriage to Glen DeGeest at the church parsonage in Staples. To this union 3 girls, Janet, Alice, and Glenda, were born. Alma and Glen were able to share over 67 years of marriage together before he died on August 18, 2005.
Alma was a devoted mother and helpmate on the farm and also worked in a jacket factory in Staples until her retirement. She loved to sew, garden, spend time outside, and being with her family. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was involved in Ladies Guild and quilting.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen; daughter, Janet; and siblings, John, Wilhelm, Otto, Carl, Hans, Ernest, Eggert, Frieda, Christine, Elsie, and Marie. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her children. Alice (Lloyd) Beckmann of Clara City, MN, and Glenda (John) Betts of Clearwater, MN; grandchildren, Julie (Bruce) Granby, Jeffrey Beckmann, Lowell (Tammy) Beckmann, LuAnn (Gary) Selover, Jana Beckmann, Brian (Wendy) Betts, and Lora (Doug) Eisenschenk; great grandchildren, Alison and Emily Granby, Haley, Levi, and Logan Beckmann, Caleb and Kaitlyn Betts, and Trevor Selover; sister, Louise DeGeest; sisters-in-law, Mary (Paul) Beers and Eleanor (DeGeest) Hellvang; also many nieces and nephews.
