Allen Rollins, age 82, of Leader, passed away at his home on Monday, June 18, 2012. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, June 22, at 11:00 AM, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. Visitation will be Thursday Evening, from 5-7, at the Brenny Funeral Home in Staples, and one hour prior to the service, at the church. Burial will be at the Evergreen Hill cemetery in Staples.
Allen was born in Staples, MN, on July 22, 1929, to Clarence and Bessie (Miller) Rollins. He lived in Staples and Crosby as a young child. When Allen was 12 years old, he came to the Leader area, where he started working on a local farm. Allen married Lillian Kral on July 25, 1949. In 1950, Allen began purchasing land in the area where he and Lillian built the farm they currently reside at. Allen served in the Army from 1954 to 1956, in Texas and Alabama. He went to work for the MN Department of Natural Resources in 1969, retiring in 1992. Allen was also a township fire warden for 55 years. After retirement, he worked at the Brainerd Air Tanker Base, from 1997 to 2002. Allen enjoyed building trailers and equipment. He also enjoyed working with wood. He was well known for the canes he made and gave away to people. He loved his family, friends, and watching his grandson grow up. Allen enjoyed hunting, fishing, breaking horses, coon hunting, and working with beef cattle.
Allen is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lillian; son Scott (Darlene); grandson, Andrew; three sisters; two brothers; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Clayton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples.
